Preparing For Your PMU Appointment: Do's and Don'ts
Do’s and Don’ts of PMU
Are you excited about your upcoming Permanent Makeup (PMU) appointment? Whether you’re getting nanoblading, powder brows, lip blushing, or any other PMU procedure, proper preparation is key to achieving the best results. As an experienced permanent makeup artist, I’m here to guide you through the essential do’s and don’ts to ensure you’re fully prepared for your transformative experience.
The Do’s: Setting Yourself Up for Success
1. Do: Engage in a Consultation
Before your actual appointment, participate in my soft-consultation process. This involves answering a series of questions about your preferences and sending clear photos of your current brows. This allows me to:
- Understand your desired look
- Assess your skin type and brow characteristics
- Provide personalized suggestions
- Address any concerns you might have
- Ensure we’re on the same page regarding expectations
This soft-consultation is crucial for creating a tailored plan for your PMU procedure and ensuring you get the best possible results.
2. Do: Come with Clean, Makeup-Free Skin
On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. This gives me a clear canvas to work on and helps prevent any infection.
3. Do: Avoid Blood Thinners
For at least 48 hours before your appointment, avoid blood-thinning substances such as alcohol, aspirin, and fish oil supplements. This helps minimize bleeding during the procedure.
4. Do: Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Well-hydrated skin responds better to the pigment.
5. Do: Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Being well-rested can help you feel more relaxed during the procedure and may even affect how well your skin retains the pigment.
The Don’ts: Avoiding Potential Pitfalls
1. Don’t: Tan or Get Sunburned
Avoid tanning or getting sunburned for at least two weeks before your appointment. Sunburned or overly tanned skin can affect the pigment’s appearance and how well it’s retained.
2. Don’t: Tweeze or Wax Your Brows
Refrain from tweezing, waxing, or otherwise altering your brows for at least two weeks before your appointment. This allows me to see your natural brow shape and growth pattern.
3. Don’t: Use Retinol or Exfoliating Products
Avoid using retinol, AHAs, or other exfoliating products on the treatment area for at least a week before your appointment. These can make your skin more sensitive.
4. Don’t: Get Other Facial Treatments
In the 2 weeks leading up to your PMU appointment, avoid getting facials, chemical peels, or other intensive skin treatments.
5. Don’t: Caffeine
Avoid caffeine on the day of your appointment. It can increase sensitivity and make you feel jittery during the procedure.
Special Considerations
- If you’re prone to cold sores and are getting lip PMU, start taking antiviral medication a few days before your appointment.
- Inform me of any medical conditions or medications you’re taking, as these can affect the procedure and healing process.
Post-Appointment Care
Remember, the care doesn’t stop after your appointment. I’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results.
As a permanent makeup artist based in Augusta, GA, I’m committed to providing you with the best possible experience and results. By following these do’s and don’ts, you’ll be well-prepared for your PMU appointment.
